Oh, they didn't exactly blew up. The guys basically got turned into a traditional Japanese sparklers (duh!) - held upside down by the leg and dangling, their heads puffed up, started emitting light and spraying blood, like sparks. And then, as it looks to me, head (at least one) just popped off as a molten slag.
