Well that was a bullshit way to change is job....
only in how random and unimportant it was (so I guess everything about it).
It would be good for him to be forced out of it eventually and the only forced job change they established is for criminals. It's just that it would have been nice if it was done by someone important. Could have also done it in a way that was a little more impressive. He could have been officially charged as a criminal by the church for interfering with them once he gets to their territory or it could have been an event where he's up against a noble who's skating(or is in control of) the law and holding hostages and the only way to stop them is to kill them even though they are officially innocent, forcing him to give up much of his power to stop them.
Then you could have an actual 'downgraded to badass' arc, where he has to get by without his special advantages and only the actual skill and knowledge he's accumulated throughout his journey. Even if he doesn't have much at the start, he could begin learning to fight with only a normal person's strength and ability before he finally gets it back. However, that would require that he doesn't solve everything by just having bigger numbers or having the system automatically do everything for him. Guess the author better fix this right away and pretend this never happened then...
