I think pretty much everyone there just went "uuh, so he is a musclebrain on the spectrum who has a hyper-fixation on hammers?", because he accidentally shouted the name of the attack instead of what he intended to say. And named (imaginary floating kanji, which fighters traditionally picture when they do their finishers, if manga is to be believed) the attack what he wanted to say, instead of the name of the attack.

Instead he broke it, which lightning is not really associated with, but kinda does happen when it is pumped through high-resistance materials (due to the generated heat). Earth guy should have had a conductive layer on the outside to faraday it, the moment he knew he was up against lightning - literally the reason earth would be considered a counter to lightning.

Everything can pierce anything given enough power and time
The atmosphere is a good electric insulating, yet there is lightning
There are machine that use sand, water or light to cut
The only element that isn't used to cut irl is air, it's more use in assist
