So all the demons are trying to revive their lord but snake lady seems to be working towards her own goal. My guess is that she’s either trying to revive the demon lord herself (and take all the credit) or this entire story is a sack of bull and the actual method to revive the demon lord is to kill all the demons. I agree that something is fishy. These statues are too convenient.
It's like the demons are actually tools of the Goddess. Like, say, seals on the Demon King, who will then be revived once the seals (demons) are lifted (killed).

Otherwise, if sacrificing a lot of people is enough to create this fruit and revive the Demon Lord, why track these specific demons who could be just a few out of many entities who can make these sacrifices? Or are they simply the only ones who can turn these sacrifices into the fruit? Or the only ones who can use the fruit at the end?
So many important details have been left out... and it's definitely suspicious.

Ok, sure, but why do you think that is all they would do? Have you not considered that they might simply stealthily be picking a couple people each month, or maybe week, slowly accumulating enough sacrificed lifeforce? Depending on how long they live, they could do 1 per year for 50k years. Or they could do almost 1 per day for a bit over 150 years. And if there are more of them, then that could be halved, or even further fractionalized. And maybe they simply do it until they are close, and then do a couple quick raids on some villages, for the last few thousands?

Besides, was there not proof of one demon being able to take humanoid shape? If that is the case, then they (and any extra demons with the same ability. All of them?) could easily just operate in some slums throughout several countries.

Hell, if they really want to go the long-con, they could kidnap humans and set up human farms. If they can pose as humans, that could literally be in the form of leaders of cities or even countries (even ones they otherwise govern really well) that they use to intermittently purge slums or "problematic" minorities (homeless? druggies? criminals? "criminals"? sick? "sick"? ethnicities? religions? and so on), or even wage wars or crusades where prisoners are ritualistically sacrificed for some "mock" religion (except it kinda is real).

I had a similar thought.

I disagree with Lugh that targeting big cities is the most efficient way to do this.
That's basically aiming for the most defended and predictable positions.
They're staying in one place for a long-term operation that wastes the whole time invested there if the scheme fails. Plus, it raises the chance that you get detected and opposed to begin with.

In comparison, striking separate villages at random with quick guerilla tactics would be safer and more efficient in the long run.
You also wouldn't feel compelled to stay and fight to salvage your operation as you could drop any single operation when significant opposition is met. Little time and resources invested means you can just run away and repeat that in some other random location.
Setting human farms would be even better as you wouldn't even need to act within human-controlled territory.

That means the only logical reason the demons might have to take the risk of invading cities instead is if they have a severe time constraint, so they have to risk a small number of operations with a high harvest each. Otherwise, Lugh's evaluation is completely off in my opinion.

There is definitely more to the relationship between Goddess, Demon King and Hero.
I wonder if the Hero can not only destroy the Demon King but also hurt the Goddess thus the preemptive plan by the Goddess to off the hero.
Maybe the Demon King was the last Hero?
