Has anyone seen the anime of this? Because let me say... the character design in the anime is SO bad.

I mean... it is "normal", so to speak, but because I have been reading the manga for all these years, I realised that if Arihito doesn't look like the art in the manga... he really is just another black-haired isekai MMC.

I think there are some changes in the manga story as well, because the feel of the anime (that admitedly I only seen clips of) is really different.

I'm here partially hate-reading the manga, I don't generally love the differences, especially the art/character designs (they've basically just made every character's breasts even bigger).

The anime is very faithfully adapting the light novel pacing wise and character design wise. The problem is, because of the pacing (to fit 2 LN volumes into 12 episodes), they've had to cut the majority of the banter and small character moments and also trimmed down the entire feel of the old school JRPG dungeon crawling aspect, so it 'just' looks like a really mediocre harem isekai.

I feel it takes so much from the character, that voice grates my brain...

I hadn't noticed it, but you are right, he has such a stock standard isekai mc voice.

And in searching to hear his voice, I stumbled into a little short of the harpies scene, when they give them the contract bangles... you remember how, in the manga, they are angry at Arihito for defeating them and they get angry at him approaching, so Suzuna goes and talks to them in a soothing manner to calm them down? Well... in the anime, he is the one who talks to them; he just... shows the bangles, says a few nice words, and they forgive him.

Taking away Suzuna's characterization moment and even the harpies become just monsters that look like cute girls falling for the MC.

Talk about a downgrade... this manga isn't anything incredible, but it uses the cliches very well and gives all the characters time to shine, and the art is very good. The anime is just another "shounen trash" power fantasy, where the MC gets all the girls and is the most special boy... he doesn't even look like an adult in the anime.

This guy makes me remember that recently the opinion on telepaths has been REALLY low, or better said, people realised how fucked up the power can be, and certain characters, despite being "heroes", use it like villains.

We dont talk about that anime here just joking. The anime didnt really captured most of what it became popular in the first place. So its mediocre at best. It more like an ad for those that get curious to read the novel instead

Genuinely hilarious to have the villain use brainwashing in a series where the MC is also passively brainwashing his entire party. Will the writing point this out or is the author genuinely of the mind that passive is OK compared to intentional control?

Arihito didnt want any of them to be like that to him. You could already see it on the early chapter and his reaction towards the skill in the anime. He even already made adjustments to sleep in the couch away from them. The problem is author didnt really expound or continued that part and left it hanging.

That's what I meant by the orgasmic healing support though? And it's not horni whenever he sleeps, it's precisely when he heals them out of combat. His recovery support/aid recovery heals vitality points every 30 seconds as long as his party members are in front of him, regardless of whether their health is already full or if he is asleep. In chapter 5 he thinks it's to do with the trust/credibility level but that makes no sense since the effect only started when he turns to face Kyouka. The girls would be horni all the time instead of just at night when he faces them since trust level shouldn't be resetting or going down unless something happens to worsen their relationship. And if it's to do with trust level, Louisa the receptionist should not have such an extreme effect as well when she had the sleepover with the girls. Her trust level would have been much lower than his usual party members who are always getting healed while in the field. It seems to be less of brainwashing and more that constant overhealing makes people feel good. There are a little more details about it in the exclusive bonus content chapter about said 'orgy night' in the light novel.

Good lord, it's just a story where the MC can make girls horny. All of these details are the bumpers authors put up to make it "ok" for marketing while the self-inserters jerk off to doujins.

Why is the Merchant acting like a loser suddenly? Like having any expectations for her is bad. She just scared of dying now or what?

People have largely been turning on telepaths and shapeshifters in the west because of Marvel. Marvel near exclusively portrays anyone with that power set as using it unethically but because Marvel writers/editors seems to hire people that have never heard of morals before they also portray the "good" aligned characters as always being in the right for whatever action they taken. This is unlike almost any other group where usually good aligned characters are at worst conflicted about immoral actions or ignorant to the implications and generally the surrounding narrative does not go "this was a very good thing that they did."

In DC, the Justice League at one point were editing villain's personalities if they were particularly problematic then mindwiped Batman after he found out. DC unambiguously portrays the Justice League as being in the wrong and that this was immoral. The least ethical telepath in DC is Miss Martian, Martian Manhunter's niece, and she basically acts the same as Marvel's most ethical telepaths.

In Marvel, prominent telepaths like Professor X and Jean Grey freely brainwash and mind wipe their friends and family all the time. Professor X has even brainwashed at least one person into being in love with him. Good aligned shapeshifters have been shown to transform into other people, sometimes innocent people, to deliberately ruin their life and reputation over perceived slights. It's almost outright stated that in the Marvel Universe telepaths reflexively read the minds of people they meet for the first time. If they're good aligned Marvel almost never depicts any of these character getting punished for their misconduct. If they do it's usually incidental to some other thing they did and not because they mind controlled people or stole their livelihood. Marvel also rarely if ever shows telepath or shapeshifters as being conflicted about their actions in regards to HOW they use their powers.

NGL, from my PoV, the only place mindfuckery has in fiction is bad smutt. Almost every instance I've watch or read just comes accrossed as a crutch the author uses to force their plot forward. Doesn't matter what side uses it, nor if the mental tampering is moral, amoral, or immoral. It's just a cheap trick of a trash imagination with no real value to a story other then to horrifying the audience of of the possibility of not being in control of your own mind.
