I don't think there's a way out of it.
The way the country is now it'll only be unified by force. I know that the future will be wonderful with Shizuko's influence, but that future is impossible with a went to this civil war. Even if she wanted to pick a part of the country to leave in peace one of the warlords would eventually go there to destroy it because of it's independence.

The best she can do help to end this war faster, but that would also require killing more efficiently...
But the biggest problem is the other daimiyo that may betray and try to seize power, eventually Shizuko would need to help to kill some of them too.

No, rockets were used in battle both in China and Europe around 200 years before Shizuko made these. They had also gone out of fashion, at least in Europe. Cannons were better in almost every way.

Rifling was invented in Europe (around 1500), but I don't think it was used much, probably only in really expensive high-end guns. Smoothbore was the norm for both cannons and muskets up until the 19th century. The American civil war actually started with both armies fielding smoothbore muskets, although that soon changed and both sides got rifles.
War needs a lot of guns, and the industrial revolution had to get up some steam before rifles could be made in large numbers and cheaply enough.
Ha. Get up some steam. I see what you did there.

I'm starting to appreciate that I have mediocre understanding of the subjects covered in this manga as of late. If it was agriculture, livestock husbandry, or certain modern technologies, I would probably be complaining too. XD

Just so you know, intentional spilling of acid to cause pain to enemy is considered a chemical warfare. Chemical burn is painful and leaves long-lasting effects, including disfigurement.

Also, unrestricted submarine warfare on merchant ships is a casus belli US used to enter the WWI. Not bad on the same level as acid rockets, but definitely not some diplomats-friendly moves.

i love how she was tainted by this war crazed era
she's okay with killing ppl now and bringing weapons
she's clearly turning crazy
andi love how ashimitsu and nobunaga's facial expression was one that was clearly insanely evil unlike when we first saw them
i just love this manga so much😭😭😭
i was scared at first thinking she's unrealistically keep her modern mindset when she should have gone crazy because of the shit happening around her in the sengoku era

(nb: its fiction so all is fine but say no to war, its not cool irl, and im just saying this in case some edgy dark sasuke guy who dreams of going to war or whatever comes here: grow up. You'd die instantly.)

thanks for the chapter! the translation and notes were top notch as usual👌

It's okay war crimes haven't been invented yet.
It's only war crimes after the war is over and you lost at that too anyway.

It's so strange for me that there're so many innovation and knowledge from the future, but not much has changed in term of warfare. With the development of farming and all these inventories, realistically speaking, Nobunaga's faction should be overwhelmingly strong now and non of these historical even would happen. Author probably want to follow the historical timeline since it's easier than creating a completely different ones.

I doubt any of the explosives in the chapter would be useful in a way they were portrayed in the chapter. In all likelihood the rockets wouldn't be that accurate and have explosive load large enough to destroy any load-bearing structural elements. They could be useful for starting fires however, and a residential district would in all likelihood catch fire if it was under rocket fire.
The explosive arrows seemed like bigger bullshit though. The Chinese used exploding arrows similar in design, but they are incendiary arrows, because a lump of black powder isn't that destructible unless all the force is used to propel a bullet or some shrapnel. But here they are just blasting holes to the ship hulls.

Honestly I think that they were just using them to light stuff on fire so soldiers would run outside and they’d be easy pickings for her troops.

Shizuko probably would love for the fighting to stop but she knows Oda won’t stop till he achieves his dream so she’s doing her utmost to speed it up so less people die. Her desire for infrastructure is probably part of that as better infrastructure means that less people will die

As for the ship I think that had less to do with the incididiary arrow and more to do with it essentially being a big ass chisel being fired from a gun.

Wait till you see Shizuku using plastic explosives very soon.

While I agree with the thought that the author wishes to simplify the timeline, there also has to be realism in these thoughts. Remember when Oda first started out, he had the same capacity for war that Switzerland has during WWII. Wealthy but tiny. Then with the conquest of Mino, he then had the power of Sweden during the Northern war. But now he's like Germany. Having to fight too many enemies on many fronts with too few people. Even if he has good tech and strong soldiers, there's not enough of them yet

These self-proclamed rockets just seem to be just rifle grenades to me, I haven't seen any match lock examples of grenade launchers there quite a few filntlock grenade lanunchers floating around. So it isn't a stretch to make one in the matchlock era. the only 'modern' thing about is the aerodynamic form of the grenade. That 3km range is outright bullshit, most rifle grenades have a max range of 100-300m.

However these things seem to be designed to be used as light motars, the 'knee mortar' had a max range about 700m.

Not gonna lie but those rockets look as if they came from a Monster Hunter game. I totally dig it though.
