@Eclat123 @Subject003

Let me try to explain, but first let me apologies for my bad English.

1. The Sword. The sword used by uncle Ashimitsu is one of the most famous katana in Japan, the hamon or pattern of the blade is easily recognized, it's look like a crescent moon. I think it forged in 10th century, more than 500 years prior to the story. It still exist 'til this day.

2. Prior to this point of time, the last owner of this sword is Ashikaga Yoshiteru, the 13th Shogun of Japan, famous for being both shogun and excellent swordsman. He died 4 year before Luís Fróis meet Nobunaga. He is assassinated/forced to commit seppuku by one of the famous villainy character in sengoku Japan, Matsunaga Hisahide, or famously known as Danjo. In the original timeline, this sword will eventually given to Toyotomi Hideyoshi's wife.

3. From this, we can infer that Uncle Ashimitsu is actually Ashikaga Yoshiteru. When he is assassinated/forced to commit seppuku, he somehow jumped off time and appears in modern Japan. This is why Oda's wife really surprised when she recognize the sword, the owner of the sword is supposedly to be death.

4. What is the relationship between Ashikaga Yoshiteru and Oda? If you go back to chapter 23, Oda meet with Ashikaga Yoshiaki. This is the brother of Ashikaga Yoshiteru/uncle Ashimitsu. Oda eventually will install Ashikaga Yoshiaki as 15th shogun. Later on Ashikaga Yoshiaki will betray Oda, but that's for another story.

5. What is the relationship between Ashikaga Yoshiteru and Luís Fróis? When Ashikaga Yoshiharu is still alive as shogun, Luís Fróis go to capital Kyo to convince the shogun to give him permission to teach Christianity in the capital. When Ashikaga Yoshiteru died, he is forced to leave Kyo. As you can see in this chapter, when Oda take over Kyo, he meet with Oda and ask the same thing, Oda give him the permission and actually quite fond of Luís Fróis. In the original timeline, after Oda died, Hideyoshi didn't share Oda view on Luís Fróis, later on Christianity is banned from Japan.

6. Luís Fróis is really important character in the conflict between Oda and Tendai Buddhist temple who reject Oda authority, he give the permission to annoy and reduce the authority of Tendai temple in religious matter. Later Luís Fróis will debate about religion with the monk of Tendai. Luís won the debate and almost attacked by the monk but Oda intervene.

7. The appearance of uncle Ashimitsu/Ashikaga Yoshiteru complicate thing in the timeline. Right now, Oda already installed Ashikaga Yoshiaki, uncle Ashimitsu's brother as the 15th shogun, but because Yoshiteru is still alive, technically he still have the right to be a shogun.

No. Lost Belts are alternative timelines yes, but the key meaning is that they were deleted for being STATIC with an UNCHANGING future due to lack of progress.

What is the entire plot of this manga about? Change and progress. Thus it’s more of just your run of the mill branching timeline

Do we have a paradox in history? 2x Mikazuki Munechika exist if the world is alternative but if one of them is false it would be the case of a time loop.

Honestly, with that missionary as the leader, creating a peaceful Christian community with respect for the Oda government would actually be viable. Luis appears to be the good type of missionary, only trying to spread his religion without exploitation or political motives. On that political note, having various emissaries loyal to the Oda government that are Christian would certainly be helpful in managing diplomacy with the Europeans. Freedom of religion here would likely work well much like it did in Achaemenid Persia in that it makes the ruler look benevolent and fair. Increasing interaction with Europe through trade and science would also likely give Japan under Nobunaga more equal standing with the strong European powers, so when the whole imperialism bit comes around, Japan isn't targeted. (And hopefully doesn't partake in that debacle due to Shizuko's advice)

@charkan I don't think so, but well, kind of true for brief moment.

I think in this timeline, instead of dying, Ashikaga Yoshiteru jump into the future before his death, bringing the sword with him. You can see in chapter 29 Ashikaga Yoshiteru arrive in the future holding sword with crescent moon mark in the handle. Matsunaga Hisahide then spread the news that Ashikaga Yoshiteru die, when in fact he is still alive in the future. When he arrive back, he bringing his sword back with him.

The problem is, Shizuko (and possibly 2 other time traveler) arrive about 3 or 4 month before Danjo attack Ashikaga Yoshiteru. Shizuko arrive in Japan in spring, while Ashikaga Yoshiteru died at June. When 3 of them arrive in the past, there is exist 2 sword and 2 Ashikaga Yoshiteru at the same time for about 3 or 4 month.

Ah, now i understand chapter 16 more clearly. Before meeting with Shizuko, Oda encounter mysterious person who said, "the sword will bring along time's bastard". Mikazuki Munechika is time machine!

Shouldn't Shizuko know his identity if she has seen the sword though?

@vangoz She's not a weapons junkie like her sister (and even then, she's a modern warfare junkie, I think). Shizuko probably wouldn't be able to tell one sword from another.

This is beyond fucked up. One can't possibly imagine the repercussions of letting pedo church to merge with pedo Japan in the early stages of its creation.

@humblelord, but if Ashimitsu is Ashikaga Yoshiteru, should Nobunaga able to recognise him? Yoshiteru just died a few years back after all, surely one of his contemporaries can recognise the uncle.

Oh boy, things just got interesting and made the uncle plot relevant. It's nice to see the world doesn't entirely focus on Shizuko, even with the changes in tech that she provides. Makes her less of a Gary/Mary Sue that a lot of Isekai protagonists tend to be.

As mentioned in previous posts, the sword that the uncle used was last seen in the hands of Ashikaga Yoshiteru, thought dead at the time. For a more modern portrayal, this is the guy (or rather the ghost) you fight in Nioh 1 and 2 for the dual swords mystic art.

The more I've heard about Ashikaga Yoshiteru, the more I heard interesting stuffs about him. Really makes you wonder how different Japan can be, and how big Matsunaga's decision to assassinate him.

Speaking of Matsunaga, is he still alive now?

@SanitaryCockroach The problem is the missionaries aren't made of just one group of people. Even within one faction, some have varied objectives, and the more influence they have the greedier they get. It's one thing if we're talking about Arab and Chinese traders whose nations are too busy for invading Japan, but Western powers (especially their navies) are at its height, and they already have a pretty good position in Asia.
