Wait what??? This is like killing the main villain off-screen!

Also hold on, in the Japanese version, he uses 「嫁」, which means "wife", not "fiancé". Is he talking about someone else?
If you get his intention, he says "wife" cause that's what he's gonna call her when she gets transferred in there in the future. Fiancee doesn't mean they're wed already, it just meant he proposed. Wedding might happen when she gets transferred there.

I'll get there by my own strength.
Lady, we're talking corporate. If you don't request a transfer as his wife/fiancee, there is no guarantee that you can be transferred there, no matter how good you are at your job. It's not just about skills, it's more about openings and policies... and at worst internal politics too.
So this makes little to no sense.

This feels less like progress and more like a forced reset.

i thought there would be an explanation (ANY explanation) for why he was so insistant on not wanting anything to do with romance, why he never ever EVER showed anything remotely similar to sexual interest or libido. There was also that weird movie chapter where he was shown crying with the dead wife scene and we all went (huh, so he has a dead wife/gf, ok that makes sense). But nah ig, he was just weird.
Man fuck this lol

"Make it there with my own strength"?

What does that even mean? You could have just went there with him.

And she likes her job? People erroneously assert that Futaba and Takeda have zero chemistry, but-- and I could be missing something-- I don't recall Futaba having any special attachment to her job beyond the people in it, and I don't even recall her job being especially fleshed out beyond "office work".

Being engaged is great, it's just... she could have just went with him...
What she is meaning is that she wants to be good enough for him. An equal.

This was mostly me just throwing out a rationalization that makes more sense, since otherwise all of this just feels so rushed and poorly written by the author.

But for the translation, if your implication about what he's gonna call her in the future is the case, why not say "wife" in English, too? Not a big deal, though, more of a nitpick.
