...there's a good chance 14-year old me would have been all over that, and maybe my hangup afterwards would have been about having had sex at all.

It'd also probably impair the way I related with girls around my age.

And as I stated before-- no matter how a woman approaches a minor and/or student like this, it's almost certainly never in any way earnest. Not even a little. The level of insanity and/or arrested development a woman would have to have in order to "resonate" with a middle schooler beyond "i wanna pinch his cheeks" or even "he's gonna grow up to be a heartbreaker" is so high that she'd be hard-disqualified from the profession.

In the hypothetical I'm imagining, I'd probably be made to realize that I'm being used for very shallow ends in a dead-end relationship, and only have value to her inasmuch as I'm capable of sexually satisfying her and filling an emotional void that she's too unstable to so much as fill with someone her own age (thus, her resorting to me).

I'm pretty sure all roads from here lead to some kind of trauma or extensive psychosocial malformation.

Side note: age-gap stories where the younger party is also a minor, essentially only "work" when there's some kind of maturity parity or when the younger party is trying to become mature. The older/superior figure also has to be too apathetic/earnest/mentally handicapped/[insert-something-that-grants-them-an-ultimately-harmless-personality-here] to abuse their power-- accordingly, the older figure has to be the pursued and "conquered".

But I kind of disagree with you because this is, fundamentally, a work of fiction. The author has complete control over how the characters act, behave, and even think. Insofar as that's true, the "easy" explanation for why Kaede acts the way he does is because the author wrote it that way.

The next question, then, is whether the author is making a realistic story, one that shows how humans actually act. That can only be answered by looking at how "rape victims" act because this isn't a real story. I'm pretty sure it's not real.

I think we're in agreement-- it's important to have a grasp on the known gamut of responses to being raped exhibited by child victims. Even if you deviate from that gamut, it's an informed deviation compared to what's produced from someone who isn't aware.
