Oh, I didn't think of the Invaders and exec's as also being a result of the experiments too and not being actual aliens, that makes a lot of sense.
In any case it's likely that Red at least is a result of the monster experiment and is probably a group of clones based on whoever the original was (conversely the invaders are actual aliens and Red is a result of them copying their regeneration, I was always curious why they weren't constantly being tested on for their regeneration).
