US has more myths and legends than you would think.
There is a plethora of First Nations stories out there. Plus east coast stories, Iroquois as an easy example, are vastly, vastly different than west coast, say Haida in the Pacific Northwest, with every shade and variation in between.
And if First Nations doesn't wet your whistle, every town, no matter how small, has there own unique ghosts, demons, and monsters.
And that's just scratching the surface, I'm not talking about national myths involving cryptids, cults and other secret societies or borrowed myths from immigrants or the arguement that superheroes are a recent variation of mythological storytelling.
For every kitsune, there is a equivilent wendigo, for every yokai, a jersey devil.
Haha, sorry for the long winded, slightly off topic comment!
