Senko-san's Abode Note:
So... No exposé?
Not really, I did make a doc, with some screenshot from their server, from groups that they sniped from, and their mistranslations. But around some time last week, I watched a movie called "Blind Fury" (it's not that bad of a movie), and the main character dropped this line.
"Unreasonable men make life so difficult."
Then it kinda hit me. So many people from the scans community, from so many different groups and servers told me to not stoop so low to their level, and they're right. I'm unreasonable because I kept trying to snipe them, making my usual quality dropped. And them being unreasonable by having to prove they are native (where they also admitted to use MTL, before editing it out), having to copy what we did lol and literally having no quality check whatsoever.
Why am I lowering myself to them? They are scamming people out of donations that could be given to the authors, and in return, they given the minimum effort in scanlation. Not anymore, I say, with help from both Fap It Scans and Les Poroïniens, my ego be damned, all in on quality. They can release as fast they want, calling it "translation", but I know, in some part of the readers, they will prefer our quality, over their quantity. Call me petty, call me pathetic, but quality will never lie, and it seems to me, Mylene doesn't have any.
(P.S. Also, we are gonna remaster all of my (Senko-san's Version) chapters, with better quality too!)

GPT is MTL, so I wouldn't trust that, also, if you... y'know... read the next few pages, they are at a café, with Reina drinking black coffee, so we went with that.

Not sure where you got that information, but 社長 is written as しゃちょう, further proof here.

I don't think LLMs are machine translations (encoder-decoder architecture), afaik;

Reina drinking black coffee
but did she say coffee or is asking "care to join me for some tea" just the ultra formal way Reina is awkwardly asking her colleague to hangout :kek: ? If that's the case, its should stay in the super formal way of asking, because she's oblivious on how to ask a coworker out to gossip

The word ocha does translate to "tea", but you're not supposed to take an invitation to go out for ocha that literally. In English, the default invitation is "let's get coffee", while in Japanese, the default invitation is "let's get tea", regardless of what you're going to drink. Since they do drink coffee in the chapter and coffee is the English default, it seemed like the natural choice. Maybe in British English tea is the default drink instead, who knows.

And there's nothing awkward (okay, I made this sound misleading) about how Reina asked Kurokawa out, though it could have been more menacing.

I think the main point isn't coffee/ tea, really
but how she is very formally asking her colleague because of her social awkwardness
since "Let's grab some coffee" is not as formal as "Care to join me for some tea?" I think tea might be the correct one, because it's part of the joke (she asked her out in a totally formal tone, for a very informal conversation)

Uh... I don't think the drink has any relevance to how formal Reina's invitation was.

What @iltrof is saying is that "お茶をご一緒してくれませんか?" is a euphemism - which the Japanese use a lot of because they like to beat around the bush - for "let's go on a break." Hence their translation to a similar euphemism in English.

I don't think we actually have a disagreement here, but I don't see the need to insert "tea" into this just to make her sound extra posh? Like I said (in a ghost edit, sorry), the TL could use to be more menacing because the formality of the JP plays to the same effect as your parents calling you by your full name in English. That seems achievable with coffee too. Yes, it can be done with a bit more formality, and yes, it might stem from social awkwardness.
I'm glad we agree tea vs. coffee isn't the main point, at least. It's just that that was the thing you brought up 😅

I'm sure the rest of the team can amend the TL when everyone wakes up.

Lol GPT is MTL

Literally, お茶 (ocha) means "tea," but in Japanese, it can be used more broadly to mean "a casual drink" or "a chat over drinks," depending on context.

So while it technically means tea, in casual conversation it can imply coffee or other light drinks, especially if the speaker isn’t being super specific.
But obviously with the power of reading ahead. You can get context. It's clear that coffee is correct. This is what happens when a fake native translates and claims otherwise.

The difference in human translation quality is so night and day.

Just to laugh

This translation is SO wrong it is fucked up lmao

Obviously Senko got it right

Mylene translations are just bad. Like REALLY bad.

Man... the comprehensiveness...

Yup. I have been doing this for a few titles already and I will do the same on this one too -- sticking to the quality group over speed. Being months behind doesn't even faze me, so hours or days behind is just child's play.

You know what? We wouldn't have had this incredible team-up if it weren't for Mylene's giga-autism. Gotta thank Mylene for that. And they're even remastering old chapters, too? We eatin' good today, fellas.
