Now, I'm wondering if Kate is going to explain how the shadow house came to be. Like, how the hell did the grandfather get such a big mansion to begin with and how are they tricking the humans?

I have a hunch that the grandfather either killed the original humans, or he possessed the original owner and took over everything.

@Ghostcake He has mind control soot and his species produce a very powerfull energy source in the form of their soot, it wouldn't be hard to convince a king or a baron that they'd be rich and very powerfull just by letting them live and reproduce in the middle of nowhere in a mansion in exchange of said soot.

That would be like we found a specie of weird humanoid that just create a more powerfull and eco friendly version of oil.

I assume the reason why Kate noticed a lot that was wrong and just off was BECAUSE of Emilyko being such an observant person despite being a total ditzy airhead. It's pretty clear that the creation of the Shadow's shape and personality are born from being in contact with humans and it seems they also mimic some of the basic personality traits. The only reason why they don't end up being the same of course is the circumstances. John copied Shaun's bullheadedness and bluntness, Patrick copied Ricky's insecurity and desire to just be the best he can be, while I think Louise copied Lou's perfectionist tendencies.
