Many European countries would like to have a word with you lmao.
The bedding ceremony is one of those things that truly makes you realize how weird and wild history can be.
Yeahhh it's really shocking for me, this kind of thing was really happening in the past, no wonder the concept of morality hadn't been well known.

I think you'll find that the practice was based on the highest of morality of the time, and of extreme social and symbolic value.

Don't confuse medieval notions of morals and privacy with those of yours. It shows you up as a rube.

I imagine it would have come up earlier if she had a child last time, so I'm guessing the trauma prevented them from getting intimate often.

It happens when you lack perspective, like most people.

The problem isn't about morality but rather to confirm that the bloodline continues.

I say it's not about morality because these type of customs were actually introduced to fight immoral activity in the first place, primarily affairs and claiming someone else child as their husbands. Because Women cheating on their husband and carrying the child of someone else was pretty common back then.

I mean, in olden days there weren't any DNA test to confirm whether the child born was of the Royal Couple or not. Plus, it has been noted that a lot of the Royals especially Men were actually Gay or despised Women to such extent they considered having Sex with Women as something gross and nausea inducing. So in a way, this was also used as a way to force those Men to copulate and continue the bloodline, or else they would just fake claim that they had done it. Plus it also showcased that the Woman was a virgin to a certain extent (i remember a documentary/show where they showcased how Non-Virgin Women used to use unmatured pigeon eggs which they inserted inside their vagina and faked being virgin, because when the insertion occur the pigeon eggs inside would break which has blood inside it as it's unmatured egg, thus faking hymen breaking).

Yeah there are better ways to do a bedding ceremony like only having Women in the room (i remember reading that in some cultures it was the job of either the Mother or Mother-in-law to oversee the Bedding Ceremony and also to act as a Sex Ed supervisor for the first night of a couple), but the primary purpose was to be sure that the Royal Couple had copulated and increase the authenticity of the child being born as their blood.

This is also why the concept of Honeymoon was born, as primarily it was meant as a check on Women so that they don't cheat and claim the child of someone else as the child of their husband (Honeymoon was basically a concept of Couples having sex for a while month while the Women is basically locked away and denied interaction with any person especially Men).

Atleast it's a small scale with only 8 people.
I have seen documentaries showcase such thing occuring in infront of tens or hundreds of people in some theatre or auditorium, as a showcase for everyone to see and apparently bless the couple.

Blessing? I doubt that.

Some cultures you hung the blood stained sheets out the window for all to see the next day

Just nasty.
Well, you may call centuries old customs as "nasty" now.
But another centuries later, the customs we currently follow would be called out as "nasty" as well by the people of that time.
Because that's how society works, they always view the older customs as bad or immoral or nasty in some way or another. As people don't try to understand why something was being done in the past, and just apply their own current morals on it.

It was just different. If they saw people now they will think society is fucked up and morals has gone away. Everyone just treats sex as some casual happy feel good time in recent times.
