What it the demon’s plan here? If it was as simple as the demons must fight the hero he would be disappointed by his loss but he said he reached his objective, what does that mean? Does awakening the hero somehow strengthen the demons to fight her in a balance maybe?

The gods setting the rules in that world are actually on the demons' side, considering a world in a constant circle of war and violence sounds more like an ideal world for demons.
The Gods are basically playing an RTS with Humans and Demons as the pieces but in this iteration of the game their Hero pieces(Demon King, Hero) both refuse to play. The Asura Demons are sort of a counterforce designed to reignite the fuse leading to the penultimate clash between the Hero and Demon King. They haven't really explained his plan all that well, but Shisandan is trying to get Ruti to touch the Sacred Avengers because they would seal her consciousness and allow her Blessing of the Hero to take over autonomously which would have led to her marching straight to challenge the Demon King.
If Red had died to Ares, he would have succeeded because no one else would be able to knock her out of that state.
