Olivia has nothing to do with this conflict between Abyssals and Ashuras but because of her race the Ashuras are targeting her life and are dragging Felix into this, Felix wants nothing to do with his clan's past shit but feels forced to.

Doesn't really make sense that commoner Ashton managed to get the same education as the girl working in the ever so exclusive royal library, but ended up a common foot soldier.

The Royal Library has exclusive access regarding the public. Nothing states that you have to be a Noble to actually work there..
In fact, traditionally clerical jobs, of which librarian/archivist is one, were "commoner" jobs.
Historically, both Guilds, noble society, and later companies were always on the lookout for smart/competent people that were worth the effort to be educated. Not as "upwardly mobile" as nowadays, but there were strong meritocratic aspects to western society that allowed people of "common" descent to get pretty far up the social ladder.

Add to that the perma-war this story takes place in, it's not even a bet institutions would have scholarships/sponsorships for promising Youf of "common descent". It's a near-certainty.
Military expedience, the demands and logistics of war, and the personnel attrition would make it near-mandatory to have.

It's only in times of peace where young nobility.... doesn't get culled... and floods/clogs the System that "Noble Lineage" becomes a "necessary requirement" for education or social advancement.
Until the next war/plague/famine....
