To be fair his action against the dragon makes some sense, not from a power perspective but a personal feeling one.
If you're going to be killed anyways with no way to survive are you just going to lie down and die or stand straight and stare the fucker down, to die standing on your own two feet.
Would someone who dreamed of being an adventurer for so long, dreamed of defeating the most powerful monster ever really just lie down and take it?
You're going to die anyways so may as well at least show some defiance as a final fuck you to your killer.
