Depending on what you spend it on, $5000 goes a lot further in Japan than the US.
That's probably 2-3 months of rent/groceries/transit, maybe more.

Rent/Any common food item grown in Japan/produced in Asia will be very cheap.
Clothing/Furniture (unless you get 2nd hand)/some electronics and appliances will be vastly more expensive.

Also with national pension, you can be less concerned about your bank balance.

Of course apartments are smaller, lower ceilinged, usually older, and have no amendities (no gym, no pool, no common areas) so its not exactly apples-to-apples

To be a cheater is to not be able think of long-term consequences. These kinds of people do not understand that what's good now does not mean it will remain such, or that they can suffer the same fate they impose on other people.

Cheaters are paranoid about being cheated on because they genuinely cannot fathom the pain and suffering they would undergo. They believe they deserve all the benefits but none of the consequences.

They assume everyone else is upto the same stuff they are.

And if you get sick without health insurance they won’t let you die in the street like a dog.

There is a reason there is still a private health insurance industry in countries like Japan & the UK.

Japanese spend nearly twice as long in commutes as Americans, you can get anywhere by train but its very rare you can to where you are going with just one train. You can look up "Rush Hour Tokyo Train" for how great their public transportation system for 'bringing people together'.
You can only get that in a society where a) When a train hits a person, the train schedule is prioritized over accident investigation and b) everyone is on the same page where you don't just stab other passengers in the neck.
