Time to learn rio and her husband were running a psyop against rei, and mahoro unfortunately was the attack vector. See, by cutting mahoro out of rei's life, it actually allowed them to overtake his criminal empire he was running behind the scenes.

But Rio and itsuka were so deep undercover that they also lost sight of who they were and assumed the fake identities they were running for real.

Who was the mastermind of this calculated attack? Haruto, of course. And with his sister going out of town, all the pieces are in place for him to become the new criminal boss of their city.

And unfortunately for mahoro, she's not free. She's just in a new cage 😔

Thanks for your work on this series. I don't find Rio compelling enough to follow the spin off, but given how consistently you've been working on it and it's only 11 chapters, I'll be keeping watch for it for the next 11 days.

Overall, I'd say this story was a minor 8/10 to major 7/10. I think Kyoko's involvement was lackluster, and the aftershocks of exposing the affair could've been expanded on; like why Rio decided to stay, why Rei's mom reacted the way she did and how she delt with Rei afterwards, to even the non-consenting posting of their night time activities being online and presumingly still being sold.

But for what it is, it's quite compelling given it was about 15 pages per chapter, so 750 pages in total. I do hope we get to see why Rio stuck the used condom with the letter on Mahoro's door in the spin off; because what the fuck

Peak fiction, in Mahoro’s place i’d have burned down Rei and his helicopter mom and I’d have been way more angry with Kyouko than she was, but it’s just my temper I guess. She still handled it like a boss, naive sometimes but she’s allowed to have flaws after all.
Thanks for the translation

Judging by Rei's expression on page 5, he never sincerely apologized to Mahoro for cheating (not that I think he's even capable of doing so). Glad to hear that he's struggling due to having to pay compensation money and alimony.

I'll give it a 8/10 overall. I fell a bit off for me in the last 4-5 ch but still a great read and a decent ending

I'm not really that much interested in the spin off but i'll check it out after all the ch are out...

Alimony, that's one thing, but what's compensation money and why is Itsuki entitled for it?

It's money you can demand from anyone who has wronged you, basically consolation money. It's called isharyou (慰謝料). Japan is very permissive when it comes to suing someone for harming your integrity, and that includes your honor.

I don't want to be a Debby downer but I'd give this manga a solid 4/10 the beginning half was pretty good with some drama and suspense wondering who the mistress was but once it's pretty dialed in on rio it just falls apart. Nothing really had much weight after a bit. Could've been better

The beginning was the highlight of this manga, but after the author’s self-insert, it really went downhill. The ending was very unsatisfying, and the author should have spent more chapters on it instead of padding out the runtime with useless ones, like the attempt to catch Rio and her husband in the café — since, in the end, it didn’t even matter. I’d rate it 6.5/10, only because the beginning and the commenters’ theory-crafting were fun

Wish-fulfillment Haruto ending. :haa:

Mahoro got what she wanted tho, so I guess Itsuki came thru for her, however self-centered he might be.

First let me start off with thanking you for translating this work all this time! And I will be seeing you in the spin off for sure. Even if in my eyes nothing can justify Rio’s behavior, I am interested in where it came from.

As for this manga, it’s good. I think it might’ve been a bit rushed sometimes but some of my major worries like Mahoro immediately getting with Haruto ended up not being the case and instead I got the type of ending I was hoping for. All in all a solid 8 out of 10 from me. I hope besides the extra chapters and spin off that the author has other works because if this is their first I can only see them improving.

It is her third work actually!

The others are not translated but one is about a woman going through financial turmoil after her husband decides to change jobs all of a sudden, while the other is a slice of life about woman who encounters a magical fairy inside a mikan who says they'll grant all her wishes.

This was such a good time. For the past few weeks it became a nice morning routine to spend 7-8 minutes reading both Everyday is a Holiday and this. I've said it before but I found the author's almost minimalist (?) artstyle very appealing, especially after reading so many other mangas with a lot of details to the characters and backgrounds; it was a nice change of pace.

The author being so candid about how much real life influence this work is based off of was also appreciated (plus the author's just funny cheering for and reacting to the very characters she created. I find it pretty endearing). This wasn't the sprawling whodunit I was initially expecting, but it never needed to be. It's a work that speaks to the reality of many women in marital relationships, and I think it does a fairly decent job of depicting that (albeit with some exaggeration for the sake of intrigue).

Thank you for the translation.

Let's be real, he's going to dig himself out of the financial hole and then do it all again. Suppose Rei is apparently such a heartthrob that Mahoro was willing to marry him, and Rio acquiesced when he came onto her. In that case, he's probably not going to have any issue finding another gf/wife in the future. Not because he's such a great person, but new relationship energy is blinding and will likely produce another bangmaid for him that will need to learn Mahoro's lessons all over again.

Now that the story is finally over I can say with confidence that Haruto was a wish fulfillment character (which we knew because the author themselves admitted that) but the real problem is that he was just a wish fulfillment character and was practically irrelevant to the story completely. Take him out of the story and it remains pretty much the same. Not to mention, he pretty much jumped on her the moment she started the divorce procedure or after it ended, and let's not talk about flirting with her while she was investigating her husband's infidelity and was emotionally wrecked and vulnerable. Dude....

I really liked this story. I hate most cheating stories because its mostly just watching awful people be awful, and giving them an excuse to be awful. This story is so refreshingly straight forward that I knew right away I could expect something different and it gave it to me. Its so realistic that Haruto felt out of place because every other character had a glaring fault, even Mahoro and her doormat attitude.

But even the most blase cheating story would have had Mahoror and Haruto get into something before the end but it stays refreshing because nothing happened by the end of. I wanted a story of a woman divorcing her scumbag husband and getting her life together and it gave it too me in an interesting way.
