You know I never actually got the appeal of anime. I know I sound insane right now but I’ve mostly read things for good character chemistry (sole reason I read rising of the shield hero) or to learn about genuinely interesting worlds (what everything else I read is). So anyone mind explaining to me in all seriousness what’s the the appeal of most anime? Is it that I’m just not recognizing good chemistry or is it just that I don’t like a lot of world building done in it? Is it the avatar problem where something is so good everything else seems bad in comparison?

Don't worry you're not not insane for thinking that anime is boring. I don't watch anime because I like reading more, that's my excuse.

The appeal of anime is the preference of some people. They like fast action stuff, some people like the VA and of course jiggle physics.

2. Not sure what you're saying here but I kinda get it? Anime sometimes skips the details and animate the bigger picture instead.

3. I don't get it, avatar as in aang? Or avatar that alien blue cat thingy. I don't know about something so good everything is so bad but I think it comes down to preference.

@rift never watch kora it’s shit as a sequel and meh as standalone show. And um as for nauorto I just avoided it out of the gate because it’s just a standard action shonuen show

A rule of thumb.
The novel has more depth than the manga.
And the manga has more depth than the anime.

But an animation has movement and sound and music. Also, manga are mostly monochrome.
So anime can give a different kind of immersion.
F.e. action scenes, slapstick jokes and certain emotions simply work better when animated.

Maybe it's just me.
But I haven't watched some of the highly recommended animes. Simply because I read the manga already.

But I sometimes read the manga after bingewatching the anime.

F.e. with Elfen Lied. Because I knew they ended the anime halfway of the source manga.

I enjoyed Korra. The character building was garbage, but the worldbuilding, art, animation, and sound design were great. Music was good too. I stopped watching after season 3 ended, though, so that's kind of the canon ending for me. It was a depressing, cynical ending, but it felt fitting for Korra's character arc.

edit: @BroederTrapist I read Deadman Wonderland when I heard the anime only adapted the first arc, and did it poorly to boot.

@Bestboy Yeah. For me it was the opposite. I read the manga of Deadman Wonderland first.
Then much later discovered the anime adaptation.
That one was an exception for me. I knew it would have a lot of action scenes. So knowing the story didn't stop me from watching.
