Thanks for the chapter, as always!
As for translating texts without a subject, how about making the sentence passive? e.g. "The defendant is hereby declared..."

i cant think of a reason why he would kill the son too?

Did he feel unfairly treated as a murderer when he murdered someone?

Perhaps the first time the death was accidental. He was caught by the MC's father while stealing money so maybe they got in a fight. Not sure if the penalty for manslaughter is lighter in Japan but that could explain why he was only given 15 years.

Maybe his resentment over the son's testimony grew over the years and that's why he decided to kill him.

This is a nice argument for a death penalty. Like seriously, why is the crime of taking away someone life just a few years in prison? How is that "just"?

that's why we have tiered sentences?
everything is always case-by-base basis
in this case, it was 2nd degree murder at worst

Because Seeing ur dad die is diffrent then literally saw the murder. The dad might have just fell and the kid just see the dead part and if it's the case then I'm sure even you would agree death sentence is just a no
