The real question:
How did the MC even defeat that jester during his time as "just" the human sage Dwight?

I mean time magic with memory alteration magic seems to scream that he only was made to believe he killed the jester while that was only an altered fake memory created by that jester.

As for why, the previous demon lord could not break the jester's magic but had potentially a power to control the jester.
So maybe the jester was restricted by the previous demon lord and wanted to be freed from that control.
But simply betraying the previous demon lord would obviously be prevented by that control.
Faking his own death and then disappearing however would be possible if no notices the setup - which he could ensure with his magic.

Considering they just introduced him as a "time mage" instead of a memory/stealth magician, I kind of wonder if he somehow just brought his self moments before his death to this time for whatever reason, and is destined to eventually go back to his time of death in the past.

Either way, a time mage being introduced right after "he was supposed to be dead but he isn't" is sure to drag some kind of goofy plot contrivance along, lmao.

he has the ability to alter memories that even dwight is shocked by, he can erase his presence so well that he can literally stand right next to him without being noticed, with abilities like that faking his death would be way too easy
