And honestly, speaking as someone with a ton of natural talent at a couple of things that I'm not really interested in (eg math), I can testify that it's not a psychologically hard thing. Really, it's gratifying to be good at something without having to try hard, even if it's not something you really want to pursue. It's pleasant. It takes someone really determined to fuck themselves up, to make that into some kind of trauma or cause for resentment.
