I feel like this is a setup for the son to actually be evil (but intelligent) and to have the father (now dumb but good) come back and take away his power. But with this being a series where one of the main points is the difficulty of communication, I also feel like it'd be hard to progress that story outside of .5 chapters like this.

It's kinda hard to feel like I care about his redemption, he caused alot of deaths, perma injuries and lifelong issues with how he acted. Sure he can ask for forgiveness from the people but for me his sins are too numerous that I'd ever think well of him again.

In this case, only time will tell and heal the wounded. In the mean time, he needs to keep up this attitude.

I'm glad the character redeemed himself. The other chapter where it was in his POV made him seem like a man who was trying to do the right thing, but was far too arrogant and cocky, so this is a nice change from the usual evil noble.
