To be fair, he's been a Dragon Slayer for a lot longer than he's been a dad (and even then he still thinks of them from the perspective of their human halves, he still hasn't quite accepted reality in many ways 😅,) but yeah, as you said, it's not something we should overthink at the moment, especially without more information about the divide and war between humans and dragons 🤔

I think you should think about it. Isn't this foreshadowing that the humans are actually the bad guys? If that were the case, it would allow the main character to eventually come around to fully loving and supporting his wife and family without becoming a bad guy (which I think is the most obvious direction for this plot to go anyway).

In the first place, dragons aren't monsters in this setting, they're people. Imagine if there were a country in real life that was at war with Italy, and they had a group called the "Italian Slayers" that would pay you a bounty for hunting Italian children and civilians. That would be extremely evil, right?

It wouldn't even be surprising if killing hatchling dragons was one of the biggest reasons for the war wouldn't be the first time humans walked into a dragons home and slaughtered they're children to start a war
