I usually feel ratings are pretty accurate but how is this higher than even a 7, let alone 8?
Let me try to explain, I actually believe it's far simpler than it looks. See, when
@LinkedSet says
it feels like there's no seriousness or gravity to literally anything any character says or does.
he is right,
but it's a good thing. It's good because it's
comfy.
You can tell the general outline of the story from the first chapter: the protagonists move from being a pretend couple, where they have to pretend to have feelings for each other, to being a pretend couple where they pretend not to have feelings for each other, and finally to a genuine relationship.
You can tell that whatever challenges the protagonists face, they're going to resolve victoriously in a couple chapters. The twins aren't going to be killed, Rossweisse is not turning into a traumatized shell of herself after a rape, Leon is not losing a limb to swear bloody vengeance and waste his life chasing it, etc. All the issues before them will be without seriousness or gravity, even if presented as existential. Because the mango is light entertainment, a sort of wish fulfillment story.
Again, it is a good thing.
Consider how many mangos have the protagonist being secretly and unexpectedly the strongest as the base of their plot. Just off the top of my head - from decent titles like
From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman (8.82) or
My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned as an S-Rank Adventurer (8.70) to the trash like
So I'm a Spider, So What? (8.94) or
My Daughters, S-Rank Adventurers, Have a Severe Obsession With Their Father (8.13). The latter one has a rating above 8 despite its plot literally being the protagonist named The King being secretly the best at
everything and having his adopted daughters lust after him carnally.
In comparison, this mango doesn't play coy: Leon's said to be a dragonhunting celebrity, and his powerlevel matches that; Rossweisse is said to be a dragon monarch with awesome powers, and that shows.
And you know that throughout their conflict the only thing that's really at stake is who gets to be on top this night.
It's relaxing.
