I can't express enough how peak this adaptation is, we are still at the pretty mundane and slow prologue section of the story, but the manga format sells the story so well, its somehow much better than I remember, this mangaka really rocks and clearly loves the source material, the expressions and paneling and whatnot really stands out for me, who reads so many other mangas and mid adaptations, but maybe its just my bias talking heh.

Come to think of it, yeah, usually novel adaptations are snooze fests full of yapping and walls of text, but with Shuukura, it's mostly the spicy interactions and monologue in their heads, which can be cut down or rather, expressed though the drawing of their expressions. This lends itself really well for manga or anime 😮

You missed the part about Miyagi buying her own classmate to do kinky stuff for her. You can infer from this she isn't exactly normal adjusted girl, she disliked Sendai enjoying licking her, but liked when she licked Sendaí's finger and Sendai was put off by it. To explain it fully I'd need to do a whole lot of spoiling and wall text yapping, but basicaly, the short version is, she enjoys when Sendai is at certain "distance" from her, emotionally speaking, basically the whole novel revolves around this. (light general spoiler)

It is not a regular slow burn like adashima is more like a what are we? relationship, you know doing everything that a couple does without telling what you want to really say.

After reading all of the current mtl available, yeah this is the perfect description of this story.
But i do wonder, if this ever get an anime how will the story develops, due to the slow slow burn. Will they need to somehow shorten the burn or will they keep it at the same pace and take 20+ episode before them actually confessing

I think they will use the manga adaptation, cause it already cuts a lot of inner monolegues from each pov. When the manga reaches the gradution part then they will have enough source to make an entire season. In some years maybe.

honestly I don't understand why these types of "clearly fucked up mentally but refuses to have anything resembling a normal honest conversation" yuri (this and Adachi series, and that one other series about childhood friends betting or sth) is so fucking popular.

And the response from the one being attacked/being submissive is just so unrelatable. Or maybe I just have anger issue because I would not just lie there and let someone dump their shit onto me like that.

It would be more interesting if them dealing with their massive hangups is actually a core part of the story!"

This series knows exactly how toxic it is which is why most of the story isn't really about them getting together, but about them gradually making the relationship actually work.

I see. However, I don't have the patience to read through 370 chapters of slow burn with barely any actual meaningful conversations about mental health happening so it's a pass I guess. Sure spoilers can't give true context, but it's been 370 chapters, and they even grows up to 20yo?? and yet their communication skills and mental health doesn't improve that much??

Maybe it's cuz I'm older than them, but I find all the miscommunications (and overall lack of mental healthcare in Japan) so tiring and boring. Hell, it's like watching one of those old Kdramas with hundred of episodes where there are fucktons of miscommunications drama everywhere, and that's just not my thing.
