Wtf... This father keep pushing the title when he already says no, but the moment he can't force him anymore, he wants to kill him... Dad, if he have even a smidge of want for that shitty title, he would have taken it. Heck, if needed he could just cut his ties with the family so he have no right to usurp the title when you die. In the first place, you are dying. what ever happen will not have anything to do with you anymore. why do you have a problem with it when the brothers doesn't have a problem with it other than the one YOU created...

If there is one thing I've learned in my life, it is that people are absurd. Even I am at times, and I recognize that.
For example, I'm thinking my own father isn't as healthy as he lets on. His own thoughts are about how he is remembered though. He wanted a gravestone next to his grandfather he never met (trying to get adjacent to his honor), or donating antiques to a museum in his own name (he got them from his mother - whom he didn't like). He has a fascination in how people he'll never know, will think about him. Just plain pride or fear of not doing something important enough to get his "fifteen minutes of fame."
In case it wasn't obvious, he hasn't tried to repair the relationship between him and myself. Family doesn't seem to matter much to him.

I'm reminded a bit of Tales of Graces, where Hubert and Asbel's father created a rivalry/succession battle that never would have happened had just left the boys alone.

Hmm, something fishy around here. It is the brother that tell him to run away. And yet, he just running away with even without verifying anything.
Did the father really order his brother to kill him, or was the father actually unalived by his brother? Who knows, he just ran away.

yeah, like the most obvious thing happening here would probably be the brother literally just murdered the father and told his brother to run so it’d look like he did it, thus securing his position

Anyone else notice the tiny cat sitting on the steps by the fire? Kitty's just toasting by the fire with Utulu and his fellow knights. I feel like "Tama" might be a good name. I'll consider that correct unless otherwise informed.

I would doubt it, especially after hearing the fact that he really don't want it in front of the father. It probably just the father that want to solidify the older brother position by making sure that there is no other opposition.
