Okay then.

It's character development: she wants to change (I don't think she likes being so reclusive or afraid of others honestly).

While she might still love numbers and worship them with all her heart (or use them as a coping mechanism), she might want to take on other electives to make friends perhaps (albeit I doubt she's actually thought that far - she now wants to start trying new things).
