"Could it be that you're an amazing slime or something?"
Well, yes, but also a saint.

She's nothing if not positive. Except when she's paranoid.

She really switched it up and put him to work.

To be fair, that would be scary for anyone.

Ah, yes, accidentally sit in the nice demon chair. Can have nothing but good consequences.

It's useful for basic shopping and passing basic notes.
Medieval peasants knew that. Or at least quite a few of them. Some notes found are surprisingly similar to social media comments and drama. Literacy was generally measured in the ability to read and understand Latin, not their own, local language.

Cute Leon antics and all that, but I'm more surprised about Lumir.

Leon has a lot of room to grow if he's treated as a good dog, and taught new tricks. His visual memory is plenty to overcome illiteracy, and it's tragic he didn't think of it as an option. Is Canarium literacy that neglected? Historically, power structures literally need to make it illegal for groups to learn letters, else, basic literacy spreads. It's useful for basic shopping and passing basic notes. Ultra useful. So it's bizarre that an experienced traveler like Leon is both illiterate and surprised at the idea of being asked to learn some reading. Cute bonding moment though.

Lumir though is super trustworthy yet kinda sketch. Jelly is apparently a bizarrely talented slime, on top of getting goddess magic beyond what impious torturer Jelly showed. On the other hand how is finishing a jar of fruits a signaling mechanism? Magic? Goddess nonsense? This merchant demonstrated she and Jelly are breaking different rules or norms, and Lumir's body or self-study after gaining the body is definitely not a simple merchant. The least convoluted option is she's a mage or witch who chooses to be a merchant anyways. I doubt she's got plans beyond being a merchant though, because, as we see from how the slimes, slimes are simple people even if they use complex ways to keep a simple life. Like bodysnatching hobbits or something. (don't sleep on how weird the empty jar as a signal is, it's not a pricey artifact in itself)
Yeah I noted before that Lumir seems pretty well-connected and used to dealing with nobles for a simple peddler. And there's the unexplained story of how she learned about and obtained a human body too.

Even if she does in fact want to live a simple life, surely this will become significant later on. This rather outwardly light-hearted story keeps dropping innocuous details that become significant later.

And on a related note, so her splits and other feats aren't normal? Our girl was destined to be the slime saint even before getting Jelly's body it seems. Which tracks with several other hints that have been dropping lately.

She starts getting woozy from the book covered in blood and his first thought is to help her sit down on the blood covered monster chair that also has restraint straps on its arms? Somethings gotta be wrong with his head.

I have the feeling that this chair might be the reason why the original Jelly turned evil in the first place.
