Two things
1. The double-dungeon does not refer to a red gate. It refers to the "temple" dungeon within the low ranked dungeon.
2. People keep complaining about Korean translators. Sure they can find one easily. However they're trying to cover up the existence of "something" that came out of a dungeon like that. So they can't just use some random person with the ability to translate. Even if they did, it isn't like there is any guarantee what was spoken is the truth. So they're relying on the judgement of an experienced S-Rank who happens to speak Korean.
I don't get the part about where our MC says something about the double labyrinth. He lied, as far as we know, he is the strongest one and there was no one stronger among the hunters. Only the statues were a lot stronger, but I don't think he meant that. I'm confused, since it's build up like there actually is someone stronger than him from that double dungeon run.
@GerryCerryBery
Well he didn't lie as he didn't defeated the monster in the double lair, for all he know he died that day and after that he woke up in the hospital.
.... I guess one lost wasn't enough for him. Just needs to try again, since he didn't die. hahaha. But the guild seriously doesn't have another korean translator?? Like for real?? Plot hole...
Many thanks
@unime I think they needed a translator who is strong enough to hold Il-hwan (if that's his name) back. A weak (or anyone below S-rank) would just become hostage or pointless victim if they went in. Of course, this is before they realise how much stronger Il-hwan is.
mahtan answered part of it already. As for who was the strongest in that double dungeon, it was the C-rank magician who is good at using sword. Jinwoo was the weakest among the group that day. Even after re-awakening it takes time for him to surpass that C-rank guy.
on page 5 when he talk about the top five countries guilds, he uses the expression "dinosaur" to express strength/power but that word, at least in the US, means archaic/old.
@unime
Yes, they did. It wasn't shown, but it was implied that they sent someone in to interrogate Il-hwan, which gave them a general idea of the situation. That's how they knew that Il-hwan claimed himself to be trapped inside a dungeon in South Korea and found himself in US when he was awake. However, they decided to cut the interrogation short and looked for a S-rank Hunter who is fluent in Korean due to the danger of Il-hwan being a monster with human memories. So the main issue is not because they do not have anyone fluent in Korean.
I think the only reason they went ahead with the initial interrogation is because Il-hwan had been cooperative so far.
Hunter Association and Hunters' Guild are 2 different organizations.
There are 2 types of Hunters' group:
1. Guild: An organization formed by hunters whose main objectives is to kill monsters and prevent dungeon break.
2. Hunter Association (HA): An organization formed by hunters to regulate hunters.
The reason why HA goes after low-rank dungeon only is because that is not their main objective, and they only clear the dungeons that no guild wants to take (in this case, low rank dungeons since they only have low-quality items inside and is not a good source for income for guilds).
Read-on only if you don't mind minor spoilers.
The 5 tops/large hunter guild:
1. Hunters (first place because they have 2 S-rank Hunters: Choi Jong-in (the GM), and Cha Hae-in (the vice-GM whom YooJin Association Chairman is trying to recruit for Yoojin Guild))
2. White Tiger
3. Fame
3. Fiend
4. Knights (last place because they don't have any S-rank Hunter, but they do have enough A-rank Hunters to keep them in the top 5)
The Chairman is the only S-rank Hunter in HA, plus by how differently Jinwoo reacts to Gun-hee vs how he reacts to Jongin, you could tell that Gun-hee is stronger. That's why HA is still capable of regulating the hunters even with so many strong guilds around. Woo Jin-chul's strength is also near the very top of A-rank. However, the Chairman is old and needed a successor.
As mentioned in the previous chapter, there are 10 S-rank South Korean Hunter.
5 are currently in the top 4 guilds, 1 is retired (Min Byung-gu, another person YooJin is trying to recruit), 1 is sick due to old age (Chairman), 1 recruited to US (the guy from Scavengers), and Jinwoo. Not sure what happens to the last S-rank - either recruited overseas like Hwang Dong-su or died in one of the 3 Jeju Ant raid.
@bk3k Yes, they need to hide what happened, but then why would you trust a foreign national with no loyalty (it was specified that he only went to the US guild because it was bigger and could pay him more) with something of such importance. Even if they had to use the Korean hunter because he was S-rank, if they had a recording, they could play it for a CIA translator or something to double-check he is telling the truth. This makes all intelligence services look overly unprepared and dumb.
@Superioreos
They didn't use S-rank because they had no translator. They needed someone strong enough to hold Il-hwan back, if he was a monster and showed his true color in the middle of interrogation. Sending a recording wouldn't work since they still need someone in the room with Il-hwan to ask question in Korean language - sending in anyone less than S-rank would just make them into dead bodies or potential hostages. As you can see, they did actually send someone fluent in Korean in for interrogation at first which is why they knew that Il-hwan was trapped in a SK dungeon 10 years ago, but cut the interrogation short as a precaution.
Minor spoilers involved in explaining:
With S-rank, loyalty is never a thing. They are strong enough to do anything they wants, and are above the law (except in countries with a Hunter Association strong enough to control these guys). US is famous for swaying S-rank Hunters to their side so that they can keep their country safe. It's how they have avoided dungeon breaks despite having previous cases of S-rank dungeon opening in US.
While most S-rank don't operate by law, they are not a straight-up jerk, meaning if provided enough benefit, they will still conform the the conditions of the contract, including Hwang Dong-su. Plus US has an even better top-secret bargaining chip, other than money.
@Trevelyan HA is basically the "Goblin Slayer" of the series lol. Doing what needs to be done, even if there is no fame or fortune in it, because those gates would still hurt people.
