The duality of man. Though I agree with Kaarme. Finding something that inspires you doesn't mean you have to work on exactly that thing. There are a lot of related fields, since that one virtual doll incorporates several disciplines, like 3D projection, AI, art, and animation.

Except I have seen far too many bright eyed kids who enter a field thinking that they will do their dream job or project only for reality hit like brick. And if not for the student loans that they are on they would have quit and worked somewhere else.

Getting interested in a field is one thing. But seeing one project or company and then wanting to do exactly that, is a recipe for quick to burn out and over all unmotivated employees. If they even get a job to begin with. As some degrees are not worth the paper they are printed in depending on the market conditions. Something that most undergrads don't pay attention to when applying at a given college or university.

Sure, but Nanami didn't exactly have that dream for that long before deciding, so it's not a solid and specific dream. She was already interested in that field, and that mostly provided a direction. My view on it is that her actual wish is to work within the field of human-computer interaction, rather than on that specific project, even if that's what inspired her.

And if not for the student loans that they are on they would have quit and worked somewhere else.

Can't relate. Don't live in a country where people get skinned trying to get educated.
