I know a lot of people will disagree with me here, but I actually like this arc. That's his own struggle that doesn't have anything to do with other people, and I find that pretty motivating
You are right. About the disagreeing part :pacman:

Jokes aside, I do get what you are saying (an arc about mc's struggles with his craft, without romcom shenanigans - something I would have loved to see... in another manga :p), but I also feel like what this manga excelled in was the romcom with a reasonable fmc who were advancing their relationship rapidly and didn't take "boohoo i'm an otaku trash who hurts you by my mere presence" for an answer. A far-too-rare strength that is sad to see put aside.
Then it never delivered, over several arcs. And this arc is effectively acting to pause any romcom progress entirely, and reset things so author can milk it further in the future (for some reason jp authors seems to think that romcoms die when couples get together).

In addition to that, I find this arc far too detail-oriented, going more edutaintional than entertainment (feels like author went all-in on research, and enjoyed it too much and needed some arcs solely to get to talk about the fun stuff he learned). And yet insists on further milking any and all "issues" wakana has, by not having him ever asking anyone (relevant) for help.
Some textile he knows he has seen but can't find in cosplay stores? He should obviously ask his dad, or specialized stores he has prolly been in before (could even have them unable to answer his query, just unrealistic that he didn't even think to ask them and only asked others instead).
Unable to get a certain strong white he desires? Again, ask specialized stores (instead of cosplay ones), textile or even down to the companies actually dyeing. And even then, his dad prolly knows who to contact when you need specific colors/patterns for your textiles.

Overall, too much details while at the same time too little (not enough to describe the entire thing), as well as describing long periods of looking for something without him ever realizing to go for low-hanging fruits as he's stuck - which makes it feel like something is inflated for 'drama'/tension, rather than being a realistic issue.

I read through a relatively new edutainment title about workouts you can do at home (with detailed instructions) the other night that still managed to present a solid traditional romcom plot with significant advancement. That's the kind of thing that frustrates me here.

People when a story is built like a story and isn’t just the best snip bits -_-

Those same people having to wait a bit of time for something they want to be amazing -_-

Those same people when something is then inevitably rushed and comes out shit -_-

then they wonder y less and less participate in online conversations

U can’t win and it gets annoying, but whatever lol

This chapter is easily better than a lot of the most recent ones. But that's only because this whole arc has been so boring/bad/pointless.

Again, what's the point of Gojou being so obsessed with this costume? Because he's obsessed with the story that he read? Okay, I guess? But why should I, as a reader, care that Gojou has taken this mildly uncharacteristic personality shift of being massively more obsessed? Why should I, as a reader, care at all?

He could've made a perfectly good and fantastic costume even if it didn't meet his expectations of "perfection". That would've been perfectly fine for the story.

Here's my prediction for this. Remember how the author of the story had said that anyone who attempts to make a costume of his work will fail because it's just not possible? My prediction is that author will somehow see Gojou's work and compliment it as being perfect. Which is pointless and unrealistic.

And let me be clear to anyone reading this comment. I want this story to be better. I previously liked how the story was flowing and progressing. I wish it were better, so that's why I continue to read it. It's just currently not good. It feels pointless.

I don't understand. So much chapters revolving around this costume and they cut off all the process of making it god dammit if there's no romance at least let me see cosplay content 😭
Yeah. I don't mind so much that there wasn't any romance in most of the last bunch of chapters, but it's been focused much too narrowly for much too long, which threw off the pacing too much.

The problem is that in 1 month between the previous chapter and this one, the basically only progress was that he received an amazon package to finish a costume we still don't see a glimpse of.
And it's not exactly been just this chapter with that problem. Too many chapters with too little progress.

I WANNA SEE MARINE LOSING HER SHIT OVER IT !
I WANNA SEE MARINE FANGIRLING EVEN MORE OVER GOJO !
As I've said before, the cosplayer is Marin. Marine is an ambiguously aged pirate.

And yet people complain that Rent a Girlfriend is too slow.
At least there's crazy shit happening all the time. Or at least it used to; haven't read it for quite some time. Problem there is that any hinted progress is immediately nullified to pad more.

And this arc is effectively acting to pause any romcom progress entirely,
Not just the romcom, but everything else.

He should obviously...
That's a problem I have as well with it. There are way too many much more reasonable options that exist that aren't taken.

This chapter is easily better than a lot of the most recent ones. But that's only because this whole arc has been so boring/bad/pointless.
That's on you. You set the bar too low. :p

"is built like a story"

That's where I disagree. It feels like this isn't built like a story. It feels like this is just meandering and wandering. It feels like this is just spinning its wheels.

A story, fundamentally, has a beginning and an end. The things between those two points make progress from beginning to end in some way, sometimes predictably and sometimes unpredictably. This doesn't feel like any part of that. Again, it feels like it's just spinning its wheels, going nowhere.

You know what this feels like? It feels like the classic Japanese manga filler 200+ chapters just to fill out the story to sell more volumes. That's the problem with this.

I think I finally understand this arc after Gojo said he went insane. He goes so far to make the best possible cosplay for Marin because he loves her and also his craft. Love makes you go crazy. That’s why there were so many chapters on obsessing on this cosplay. Marin was supposed to confess but Gojo might inadvertently confess talking about why he went so hard. He probably goes the opposite direction with the cosplay and makes a pure white version that’s beautiful instead of black because that’s how he sees Marin. Instead of a Christmas confession we might get a New Years one based on the date. 🤞

I agree with the arc part. That's not the problem. The problem is that in 1 month between the previous chapter and this one, the basically only progress was that he received an amazon package to finish a costume we still don't see a glimpse of. Heck they could have added this at the end of the previous chapter and in less panels and the outcome will have been the same.
The problem here isn't that it took one month for this, the problem is that you are expecting one month of real time to equate to one month of time in the manga, instead of literally just the next chapter. Y'all've forgotten that the period of release has nothing to do with the content pacing, and demanding Shonen pacing on this is also not helping.

I felt Gojou understood the sentiment rather than feeling spiteful.

Have you ever had an image in your head that you tried to recreate, either with drawing, writing or any other medium, and nothing, nothing just seems to capture what you've imagined?

Haniel's creator feels that about her. Gojou having constantly feel his craft with Hina dolls isn't good enough, gets that.
With this cosplay, too. Nothing was good enough for Gojou until now. this was his obsession, his parallel.

THIS, THIS IS WHAT I READ THIS STORY FOR! FUCK THE ROMANCE, I CAN GET THAT ALMOST ANYWHERE, I WANT TO SEE AN ARTIST IN THE THROWS OF HIS PASSION!

And you're not going to tell us what it is?!
