Well, that's disappointing. They skipped the only part of this chapter that had any real development for her character.

In the novel, the chapter was mostly all from her POV, and after he leaves her in the store with his lie she comments on how she knows he's lying but since she's keeping secrets of her own she can't really blame him. But she feels guilty that she wants to know everything about him while also keeping her secrets to herself. It's never explicitly explained what her secret is, but she also mentioned knowing he's frustrated by their lack of intimacy. There's also lots of POV of her feelings for him, and girl's down HARD for him. Like, completely smitten. But won't go further than they have so far.

To be fair mc did try to force it on her at one point against her consent which is incredibly fucked up. Both are in the wrong but the guy moreso because he puts too much focus on the idea of sex being necessary in their relationship even when its clear she doesnt want to and the girl is just purposefully not communicating properly.

That's what I figure. I feel like the "this was the last sword he ever forged" line is supposed to make us think he died, but the twist is just that he realized that making swords wasn't paying the bills anymore and he switched to kitchen knives instead, leading us to where we are now.
