Huh, considering that this new demon is someone Future Frieran doesn't remember encountering before in the past, and in the previous chapter Frieran says her memories after touching the stone for the first time were a blur, I wonder if its possible Frieran has fought this new demon before but just didn't remember it since her future self overwrites her past self for a while.

Anywho it will be interesting to see how she balances the her knowlege of the future with the past in the coming chapters.

There's always been 2 main time travel theories in fiction. 1) The future can be changed with whatever happens in the past; 2) The future is set and whatever happens in the past will always lead to the same future.

It seems at least for now both types look possible but it would be interesting if author employed 2nd type and somehow this is why her memories of this particular time was a bit blurry. Maybe something to do with the world blurring her memories to set the future as is.

There's a 3rd option that may have happen though here. That being it was all a trap and all of this is just this new demon's doing in trying to kill Frieren.

Tricky magic to counter if she wants to hold back. Magic blast to dampen her fall? Just fly and BS her way out of it later? She can't just soul track and kill him either since that isn't supposed to be developed yet, but it would be a super free kill since he would never expect it.

Also kinda interesting to know that flight magic is relatively new. Or did we know that already?

I believe it was mentioned that humans only learnt to fly relatively recently at some point. I'm pretty sure at least that in match's arc they mentioned it used to be a realm exclusive to demons.
