I mean you could see it that way but i think that the empire is simply preparing itself to expand territory, the demon king is dead, the demon army may still have some soldiers but they seem like a shadow of it former self, so the empire probably wants to expand now that they dont have to protect the whole world, and serie is the biggest thorn on their plan.

I don't think they are unified in the idea thou. Inviting Serie to the day of the country's founding can be a sign that relations with the other countries is about to warm up soon. Assassinating her won't be the Empire's casus belli but it would be for the Magic Association and in extension, the central continent country.

Still, this isn't the first time the nobles in the country can't agree with each other. Weise was a dumping ground for nobles that are against the majority in the Empire.

I need to vent. I haven't even finished reading this chapter but for me this manga is ruined. (Just like one punch man.) The start of the manga was great. And now it's just you average shonen shit with characters I personally really don't care about. I just want Fern, Frieren and eeeeh the cowardly warrior kid (I even forgot his name with all these side characters) to continue with the journey instead of all this crap.

This happens so often with mangas, it starts great and then it just becomes stale. An other manga this happened to was The Ancient Magus' Bride and BEASTARS to name just a few. 😭😭😭
