I thought I was the only one, but I agree 100%. These "serious" Frieren arcs are below average shounen stuff. It's such a huge disconnect from the other chapters too.

These kind of mangas then turn into dragonball kind of fights. More and more over the top fights, which I find so extremely boring and over done. I thought the manga was pretty refreshing at the start. That's why I am disappointed in what it turned into. Just to cater to a certain demografics. 😑

I guess you're entitled to your opinion. For me the series would get boring if it was just a loop of Frieren and Fern going to city X seeing how they already forgot who the hero was and how sad it is that everyone is old and dead.
These fights we're having are mostly a plataform for developing Fern and Stark as characters, you can't develop characters without some kind of thing at stake.
Also how the fuck did you forget Stark's name? He has been a major character in the story since like chapter 10. That's 124 chapters of Stark being part of the main group.

Yup, and it certainly feels like an editorial push more than anything.
And yup, these are certainly some dragon ball fights, Frieren seems to lose its grasp on its own magic system more and more with every arc.

I think the main reason the group is still doing their scanlations is to have discussion here and or reddit. Most people read the official releases anyway. The discussions would've died if they stopped.
Although I think that in most cases you should drop working on a manga when it gets licensed so you don't compete with the official releases, I really doubt the publisher minds in this case. They want the promotion they can get.

The way I understand it, that's why in Japan they want readers to send messages about manga's. I'm almost certain that is the cause of changes in some of the manga's. And it's very clear when it happens. For example it's VERY clear in BEASTARS. That one started more about the forbidden love between species and other social issues (or in RL the so called interracial or class difference 'taboo' in some cultures) and then it rapidly turned into a fighting manga. I was so disappointed by that one. Or at least that was my take when I noticed it.
