The... the story is literally titled 'beyond journey's end'. Page 2 of chapter one is a giant splash page in color with 'The Epilogue of the Hero Party's vanquishing of the Demon King. The fantasy sequel that tells the tale of the heroes' 'Way of Life''

The entire damn hook of the story is that it's a meandering slice of life story after the death of the demon king. He's not getting back up just because you forgot that.

My guess is that she has some magic similar to the hero of the south which tells her that attending the ball is important to achieve the right future, but that she can't predict a future where she lives with known factors. So she throws in random chance that she hasn't got control over to see if that can change the outcome. Or something like that.

What we can infer so far

1. If we trust serie's word. The assassination probably farce to show cooperation between empire and the CMA.

2. Serie has more daily life capabilities than frieren.

3. First class mage are strong not because of the spells grandted by serie.

4. We don't know how much fern has been snacking, but i guess now she need very tight corset to appear slimmer.

Even with the massive death flag, i will still bet on serie not dying 👍

Phrase has some sort of relation with Land, and if the strongest mage from the empire was chasing him, we must guess that he's important some way or another, especially since he wants to find the remains of someone, probably family. My guess is that he's royal family or something that was chased out in the succession for the throne. Kind of hard to understand what else could make him that important.
My other guess would be that he's Phrase's family some way or another, but his grandmother wanted to remove him from the empire one way or another.
No matter the case, Phrase and Land is connected in some important way one way or the other.

I thought it was established that the empire no longer wants to kill her and that it's the shadow warriors are essentially acting against those wishes because they were determined to be no longer needed. A mad dog with a cut leash if you will. I may be misremembering things though.

Yes, we see that another Empire division wants to make sure the power of the kingdom built on Flamme's magic teachings continues. The Shadow Warriors are specifically against that and they see Serie as the key to ending Flamme's magical legacy.
