I see why Serie forced the two to become a pair, they are both looking for something. Land looking for a place to bury his family's remains and Ubel, with how it is impied, is looking for her family. Sadly, Land doesn't know he already got the reins on her but I'm pretty sure Ubel knows with how perceptive she is.

Let's be real with Fern thou, she follows Frieren as she enjoys watching her look and collect magic. She will do anything to not hinder in her endeavors and knowing how much hard labor and time is required in doing the laundry before the industrial era is, it's quite understandable why she asked for it.

As many death flags as Serie is raising, I think she's realized how much potential other mages have, no matter how much their power pales in comparison to hers. After all, she couldn't image herself defeating the demon king, and couldn't imagine a peaceful world, and yet Frieren could. Serie might be hoping that these other mages she's approved of can do the same, bringing about a future she can't imagine.

I think Serie can't imagine a world where she wins without wiping the empire off the map and killing everyone else.
Also, guess Frieren is trying to minimise Serie's death flags, if only by one.

Just had a thought, I know the mages can summon their staves out of hammerspace, and Sein doesn't need anything for holy magic (as far as I know), but Stark doesn't have access to his axe does he? Unless Frieren/Fern shoved it into their own hammerspace, will he just throw hands with any aggressors he meets, or beat someone with a chair?

I thought it was established that the empire no longer wants to kill her and that it's the shadow warriors are essentially acting against those wishes because they were determined to be no longer needed. A mad dog with a cut leash if you will. I may be misremembering things though.

Nah, she's got personality of a wild cat. You don't put a leash/hold a reins to her.

You just make her comfortable enough that she designate you as her 'comfy spot'
After that she'll just do her thing to make sure her comfy spot remains comfy.
