Himmel is an interesting figure since in any other story that took itself this seriously he, with his narcissistic bravado and truely idealist personality, would be portrayed as failing in his quest to save the world, succeeding at the cost of his life, or having a fall from grace--some sort of tragedy to balance the childish hope he brought. But the very beginning of the story already establishes that Himmel had a near-complete victory over demon-kind and led a fairly full life until he died of old age, honored as a hero until the very end.

Just another part of what makes Frieren such an interesting, unique work.

That would make too much sense, manga usualy doesn't do sense... though this manga is better than most

Also she might not actually be in the past, this could just be some kind of mindscape that the power of the statue/godess created to either teach her something or trap her.
that wouldn't make sense for time travel. she went back in time. she now exists in the prior time. she could easily return to the exact time she seemed to go back. there are tons of different ways they could decide to write this that would make sense

anyways himmel should have taken a better sword.

I really hope this time travel arc didnt end up with Fern and Stark waiting for so long for Frieren to go back and ended up becoming wrinkled or something

props to Himmel. Not only refusing to take the real Holy Sword to merit his status, he's actually doing pure hero work to actually back up his claims of being a hero..
I don't remember that happening. I guess he doesn't want a better weapon for sentimentality... He also does not look like the type who regrets anything.

It shows Kiesels skill as a swordsmith. Even if that it was a replica, it didn't broke even after Himmel slay a lot of beasts and monster since he first aquire the sword.
