I think they're referring to the theory that past frieren and future frieren (the one we're following) have switched places. So our frieren traveled to the past, while at the same time ours touched the monument the past frieren traveled to the future

What a destiny. Blade made as a replica by novice blacksmith gets into the hands of young hero who then becomes a living legend and symbol of hope. Then by chance it is being reunited with its creator, who now has way more experience and gets the chance to resharpen it for even greater feats

That would make too much sense, manga usualy doesn't do sense... though this manga is better than most

Also she might not actually be in the past, this could just be some kind of mindscape that the power of the statue/godess created to either teach her something or trap her.
