I know its been never done in their world, but did they really fall for the Trojan Horse ruse? I guess the humans were just hoping against hope. That they could finally lower their shoulders a little.

Also, the fact that this city deep in demon country doesn't have a huge ass statue of the hero party feels really off.

It'd be an interesting twist if the Lord intended on betraying the humans, but maybe one of his subordinates genuinely wanted to stop the fighting and believed that things could get better. A demon would make for a good addition to the current party.

Also worth mentioning is that the demon they raised did try to "repay" the couple with another daughter; as violent as it was it's interesting that the demon would wish to fix things at all - especially if everything they do is to deceive humans. There's definitely more to it than what's at the surface.

Well, the demon was never in the town out of their own will to begin with. It would've been killed in the forest if it weren't for the village leader offering to take her in. Eventually it got hungry enough and killed them, but kept the daughter alive assuming it could use the daughter's safety as a bargaining chip not to be killed. As soon as it realized that it wasn't going to be able to use the daughter for that, it reverted to taking her hostage, and likely would've eaten her as soon as it was safe to do so if the hero hadn't intervened quickly.

Well...whenever I was playing/watching/reading japanese works, I was always peeved by authors, who used the word "demon" for those horned humans. I was assuming that they, not having a rich background of christianity, don't have a notion of a creature that has zero empathy, zero compassion, almost no feelings except hate and which is lead solely by an idea to eviscerate humans in any possible way. Less like a beast. You know, there are tigers and lions who grew up with humans/herbivores and who don't have any aggression or desire to kill (unless they're hungry, yeah). This feels more like a living machine. Priorities are to survive, to breed and to kill humans. Which one is on 1st, 2nd, 3rd place I don't know, but nothing except these. And completely no feelings.
And now I see it. Here. What is definite is that I'm not surprised. This work is already a one-of-a-kind masterpiece for me. The feeling I have is more like "yatta! Finally some real demons in japanese work! What a precise depiction! To the point of breathtakin!". Can't wait to watch this town fall.
Also, Frieren being pinned down or carried around is hilarious as ever. 10/10 again

@Midoriha Right on, pal! Considering how rarer is for an author to portrait all demons as "evil" this one once again shows its worth.

What a great chapter, one of these that make me raise my voice at the end as I question "Is that it?! Why is it such a short chapter?"

/slowclap to author. I thought for a moment that this manga was going back to the classic tropes after a strong start but no. It develops the world in a refreshing (for a manga) fashion and I hope it keeps up.

a lot of interesting views and it's interesting to present the demons as predators, not inherently evil or well, not evil for the world but for the humans.

and when the heroes disappear and humanity starts to grow maybe too much, it's time to regulate the ecosystem hahaha

The problem with this people of the town is they never had to experience the war with the demons, remember it's been around 80 years since the defeat of the demon lord and because it's been so long is normal to seek a resolve of the conflict through differents means even if they're not the ideal.

Another thing is even if they had statues or paintings of the heroes I doubt many people would recognize Frieren either way, I mean most people unless they were scholars would pay much attention to them and even if they did, they're not going to compare every single elf girl that came to the town with the one of the hero party.

Damn, that's quite the conflict. I don't blame them for thinking well of demons, rather it's nice to see. But it really sucks that Frieren's right then.

I hope it really doesn't end so black and white, but I guess we'll see.

It's interesting seeing most people praise this series for it's "classical" portrayal of demons; since from my point of view -as an Arab- the demons you see in other series are what's considered more true to thier nature "shape-shifting beings capable of of super-huaman feats while mostly invisible to the human eye with both good and bad 'people' within thier ranks. " .

I love how she just casually wanted to annihilate that demon on sight. And she would be absolutely right to do so.
