The whole capturing of Frieren is really weird and just feels forced. She only looks at someone and lets a single word escape her mouth, "demons" and immediately after some guards get to her as if she just killed somebody and press her on the ground. And after talking facts about demons she is thrown into prison for a couple of years. What kind of weird dictatorship rules over this town?

Well said.
Demons aren't demons if they're not demonic. Then they're just misunderstood people who have been falsely demonized by others.
It's refreshing to see actual demons and not some old, played-out morality tale about discrimination.

Interesting so it's as if demons have a cultural or instinctual drive to deceit and lie to get their prey

Actually it's really small, but in the zoomed out panel after she says demon, you can see that she's summoning offensive magic to attack the demon

So she more got arrested for trying to kill a messenger

The fact that just making a demon a demon and not some misunderstood race already make thing feel fresh, show how that misunderstood trope is already overused lmao

People sometimes feel indifferent and ignore the dangers and calamities that befall other people, until that dangers reach out to them ofc.

with how some people even justifying and supporting the actions of literal criminal nowadays, this seems not too unrealistic.
Not too mention that the human generation that'd participated in the war against the Demon race had already been (mostly) dead. The newer, naive generation had never seen the cruelty of the demon race and think they can be reasoned with, like a deer trying to reason with a pack of wolves that moves into their territory.

It's the wolves' natural need to prey upon another animals, but it doesn't mean that the deer should submit and let itself be eaten alive.

Very Dungeons & Dragonsy decision, making demons alignment-appropriate.

As the demon said "I have been sensing hostility from you almost everyday. I want to live peacefully."
She thought if she could replace the daughter she killed by another she would be "safe" and maybe even leave the village(hero = danger).
She doesn't feel sad for the thing she killed (food?) but she wants her safety (again, no emotion of fear, just her basic instinct to be safe)

It's kind of refreshing to have a series not trying to subvert the classic demon alignments.

The fact that a lot of people don't even have paintings or statues of the heroes everywhere is beyond stupid. Especially since one of them is an elf that lives for a long time, truly if they knew or even if they knew and did that means that they truly don't respect the long fighting the heroes and kingdoms did to win a semblance of peace. I guess peace does make people stupidly carefree.

@pedantiq Yeah, I was thinking that demons being "classic" are now so unusual, that now having them play the old role feels so much more novel than making peace or something.

The page where Himmel grabbed the daughter and cut the demon's arms off in a blink is so fucking badass. Can we get a flashback of Himmel fighting.

Interesting take, I don't generally like 'inherently evil races' (though, obviously, some series are great in spite of having them) but 'inherently a predator species that views humans as food' is an interesting angle on it, even if it's still evil to be sapient and yet view other sapient things as food (lol, lots of humans would be evil in the same way too if we had more intelligent species on earth, I'm sure some people have eaten dolphins for that matter).

All in all I do enjoy this series a lot, one of my favorites.

Thinking about it I'm reminded of the old sci-fi horror movie "Screamers", self replicating killer robots who originally looked like a cross between a blender and a caterpillar ended up evolving to mimic injured humans and children. They'd repeat "Help me" until a human got close then rip them apart.
