I assume that he's acting like one hence the looks he gives to everyone. I'm still holding onto the theory that Donovon is a mind-reader.

I think she's supposed to be the occult lady archetype. Remember she did fortune telling for fun, now she's bringing up aliens. Her being interested in the supernatural might suggest that she believes her husband is an Alien or actually is one. Donovan's action so far suggest he's at the very least not normal.

This manga is juuust weird enough for me to believe that she's not only 100% serious, but 100% correct as well. And absolutely nobody will believe it except for Anya when she reads Loid's mind while he's mulling it over at home, and then she'll call Sy-on Boy an alien, and the people watching over him in the shadows will report it back & abduct her to find out how she knows, and then super-spy/super-assassin hijinks will ensue in order to get her back.
(And then the actual next chapter will come out & prove the little plotline I've mentally constructed completely wrong as the actual direction the story is going is completely different, lol)

Melinda calling her husband an alien is likely an erratic rationalization on her part. However, we saw from the dinner that there's obviously something  wrong with the guy, so having to live with whatever the heck Donovan is is taking its toll on the poor lady.

I doubt Donovan is really an alien. That'd be a significant change in genre and implications. I do think there could be aliens in the background somewhere, like a crashed UFO or two granting secret government tech, but aliens as active players in world events I doubt. Maybe the espers like Anya and Bond have been injected with secret alien juice.

Guys, I think she's just a tiny bit insane.

Maybe, but something is clearly wrong with Donovan and at worst Melinda has just guessed wrong about what that something is. We know there is some sci-fi stuff in this setting. I favor the idea of him being another ESP test subject tho. Probably has some personality disorder from having his brain messed with.

Loyd was blabbering a bit too much IMO, when asked about UFO. Let your patient go back to talking as soon as possible and shut the fuck up.

Yeah he's not a real trained psychiatrist and it shows sometimes.

One guess - perhaps Melinda's husband at one time was different, but (based on the scars on Donovan's head) he underwent a surgery that now allows him to read minds. He is now hyper aware of everyone's thoughts, leading to a change in personality. Melinda, not knowing of the surgery, but noticing his odd powers / increased paranoid behavior, thinks he has been replaced by an interloper.

Personally though, I still think it would be interesting if Donovan, after learning of the creation of mind readers (as the leader of the National Unity Party), put a metal plate in his head to block their powers.

I like the metal plate idea for his character. Seems in-character enough
