not sure what you're getting at here. He saying that, before he started training her, she had the basics down and was good at offensive moves. It cuts off before he explicitly says what her problem is but it's obvious enough from what we see. She wasn't given the kinda training you get in the military where your CO is constantly screaming and shooting while ordering you to do your tasks only for them to step in and break it before yelling at you to start again. Even then, you'll probably still flinch if someone stabs at your eyes. She just needs to get used to the chaos that comes once an actual battle starts.

I am getting at the sentenced "it is just that" being a valid sentence. It is stating that the situation is just as whatever was stated prior to that sentence described the situation as, and (as the word "just" implies) either that it is a "mere" thing and not something special, or that it is precisely and exactly that thing, and nothing beyond nor less.

Because a chapter would never end mid-sentence /s
