Maybe she knows what happens with childhood friends and how they always lose!
It's funny that this is the trope now (to the point that it's a twist when it's subverted)--I swear that back before 2000 or so, the childhood friend was the guaranteed winner of a harem scenario. And that drove me crazy. I didn't realize that the trope had reversed until I watched "Osamake" which explicitly pointed it out. (Although, I thought that show was terrible.)

Though childhood friends are still obvious winners if it's not harem or love triangle. Tomo-chan is childhood friend scenario, and whenever side couple is described as childhood friends, everyone still acts like they're practically married already.

Also modern harems (the not-poly ones) usually stick to the "First girl wins" rule, which usually means the tsundere or other type of girl who has a conflict with male MC, while childhood friend comes in later as one of the (obviously losing) challengers to main girl. Do you remember maybe, did those before-2000 harems introduce childhood friend earlier, or did they not care about first girl rule?

They strongly adhered to first-girl, which was also dumb because it meant from chapter/episode 1 you knew how it would turn out. It's just that usually it turned out said girl was also a childhood friend. (Sometimes, not realized until later.)

Then I think the more recent harems are preferring to start with conflict, and add childhood friend later as easy (to the point of laziness) to write in instant another haremette for the set of cuties around MC, just insert two pages of backstory of bathing together as kids and promise to marry when they were 4yo. That's why CFs are now losing so often.

I feel like she's been missing the elephant in the room in regards to childhood friends; their prominence in romance story lines.

It’s funny how she addressed that she read films and literature about childhood friends (without mentioning any romance in their conversation) all the way back from the first chapter, i wish this gets brought up in the story someday.

Be awesome if it turns out she's only read the first volume or two in any series and someone convinces her to go through one to the end...

She needs to start worrying about how being the childhood friend might make her the losing heroine
She seems to be getting a lot of 'childhood friend' tropes/cliches from manga/novel so maybe a lot of them aren't romcoms/them being losing heroines lol
