Ok, her logic seemed so loopy that I'm trying to interpret the Japanese now. The line for "We aren't dating yet" is "僕らはまだ付き合ってないって", with "yet" being "まだ". If the dictionaries are to be believed, "まだ" can mean something like "yet" but it can also mean something like "still". So he says, "We aren't dating yet (because I'm a coward)", which is the obvious interpretation, but after straining her brain, she chooses to interpret it as "We still aren't dating (despite how it looks)", which I'm guessing is a weird but grammatically valid way of interpreting the phrase in Japanese.

She then does some mental arithmetic something like:
"It really looks like we're dating" + "We still aren't dating" = "Childhood friendship must actually be more intimate than dating! Uncomfortable feelings compartmentalized!"

So basically the same thing she's done every time the concept of romance comes up, just crazier.

GOD DAMN IT. It's cute and fluffy and dumb, but seriously?! Girl, what is even going on in your head?!

She just needs some 'love rival' to appear and be all like "since ur JUST childhood friends, it's not a problem if i date him, right?"

But it would be interesting if we got a oneshot/insight to the kinda childhood friends manga she does read b/c you'd think they'd be romcoms as opposed to them being the childhood friend supporting the protag [or it's a twist where the childhood friends tend to be the same gender so it's even slower for her to realize the romance].

Even after reading the translation note, I still don't really get it lol

At first, I thought that she was implying that she was OK with them becoming a couple one day (like in the mangas she read). Though I question that now.

It not making sense is the point. She's scared of admitting her feelings, probably because she's got this complex around childhood friends and doesn't wanna change what they have, so she's twisting logic in knots to try and keep her delusion going
