Even though, be honest, we've all seen one in our life, it's not even a slur- the poor woman may have been kidnapped and trapped as their prisoner for ages. Character design should be the least of our worries ffs.

I guess it's just weird to see such a batshit insane but nonetheless open-minded author crack out a big old slur. To be fair though in Japan most consider "okama" to be inappropriate at most, so not exactly a slur for them.

Everyone talking about the slur but not mentioning that the translators chose the word so it might not have been quite so bad in japanese but the real thing to note is the stereotypical and offensive depiction of a transgender person

At this point, though, I think it mostly comes down cultural norms. That is to say, the majority of japanese people wouldn't give a joke like this a second thought so Dowman probably didn't either. Most individuals probably said shitty offensive things as kids but learned that those things were shitty and offensive and eventually stopped; the same thing happens on cultural levels and japanese society just hasn't moved past treating transgender people as jokes. That doesn't make it okay but the cultural context is important to consider before casting judgment on the author. Thanks for attending my TED talk

i can actually forgive the slur coming from bad guys as a one off tbh. but the character design for the trans person is bad.
putting that aside, page 1 was funny. bio scan and then they threw away a bunch of body pieces. overall not my cup of tea but interesting.
