@criver Sustained lightning wouldn't do much. most tanks will have Faraday Cage capabilities. Their shells would protect the occupants by diverting all static charge to ground. The big risk of lightning would be the potential to stop the engines from sparking meaning the tanks would just become bunkers to which the operators would just fire from.

The best anti-tank magic would be levitation or telekinetic. If they caster bent the barrels on all arms shut it would leave the tank a sitting duck for direct raiding.

@CheerTheDead which tank? Panzer VI? Tiger? Yeah, if it's Stuart, that's possible. But to penetrate the thick armor of modern tanks? Well, good luck.. I once saw Nat Geo about WW II, Sherman VS Tiger. The witness/driver said that, even with their guns, the bullet just bounced off when it hit the front armor (literally). And from the last page, they're looks like type-90 .. a modern type.. they may stop the engine, but they need lots of fire power. Not to mention, the tanks will not just sit idle, the mages will be under fire with loud bang, thus reducing their concentration.

Is there an explanation somewhere about why they have infinite ammo and fuel?

I doubt Japan has all the raw material to build everything on their own.

@Kirin-kun Japan’s entire industrial base went with them, and one of the two countries that they met right after the transition was one rich in natural resources such as minerals. They signed trade deals with both them and the food supplying nation. Their manufacturing capacity would be strained by not having access to foreign manufacturers in China and the like, but are fine for raw materials.

@Kirin-kun they barely used anything at all and even then they pulled from the banned stockpile. The more worrying part is what are they doing with all the US military equipment.

Anyway, "peaceful" Japan in another world, respecting their constitution? Lol.

Knowing Abe, he would have invaded the neighboring countries, to secure food and raw materials. To hell with the constitution, without any external force to keep them in line.

What I say is not "anti-Japanese". Any country in the same situation would react the same: "I'm the strongest around here? Confronted with bows, arrows and lame magic? Let's go on a rampage!"

Stockpiles. I read somewhere that Japan has fuel stockpiles that can last them for up to 2 years. I imagine that the same goes for munitions, it's not like a single warship has full magazines and that's it, no more reserves back home.

As to your other point, I agree fully. The constitution would be instantly amended, not because they feel like going BANZAI circa 1941, but because they desperately need those resources if they want to survive as a modern society.

There was already some discussion in other chapters comments about if Japan in this manga would actually need to change any law to do what they are doing here and IMHO they would not, since the current Constitution allows international deployment of troops to protect Japanese nationals abroad or under the UN flag ( both already happened IRL ). Since Japan surely had to send some engineers to Elf country to ensure the supply chain of goods it would not be hard to justify the defense of Elf country under protecting Japanese nationals ...

And if that doesn't cut, just pick the ambassadors of other countries that were spirited away with Japan to this world, make a mini-UN with them ( that would actually be fully lawful under international law ) and remember those ambassadors that would be on their interest to allign with the Japanese government and enact a UN resolution against Evil Human fantasy empire ;)

And if THAT doesn't cut, just make a law saying that, given that Japan government is the only UN recognized government in that world ( tecnically true ), they, until contact with our world is regained, currently have 100% of the votes in the UN resolutions ( again , there is precedent in the UN history ) ;)

If you wanted to be logical about it, "realistically" (I'm aware this sounds dumb when talking magic) a fireball of the size they were firing wouldn't be much scarier than a modestly sized HE shell to be honest. Give them enough time and maybe they can cook a tank, but it's not exactly going to be a fast or easy process when it's shooting at you. Lightning as mentioned earlier is not a good idea either.

If you have to be elemental about it ice magic would likely work the best, if they know what parts to freeze they could at the very least partially disable them. However the best option would be if earth magic exists, a stuck tank is a rather helpless one.

@criver Out of curiosity do you know how long it would take for lightning to continuously strike at the amperage and voltage a typical bolt of lightning measured at to melt metal? To say nothing of the energy dissipation over time which has a kind of set value.
Now I haven't taken thermodynamics in about a decade but I think the value was somewhere in the range of 12 hours.
I'm just saying in 12 hours a tank battery would utterly remove a target from existence.
Though tbh they would probably just call in the grid square removal system. This is an actual thing I'm not even kidding.
M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System Look it up. It's pretty friggin awesome
