Page 23: "the number of times to repeat a sister-in-law decreases" My guess is he fell in love with his sister-in-law when he met her. It would be interesting to see the original, and check to see the various potential translations to see if any of them were clearer if one took this concept into account. Of course, it may be that what's being said is a colloquial phrase that doesn't translate literally.
Page 26: "I wanted to see the person mama loved" implies it was mutual.
As her parents died when she was very young, I'm guessing there was a diary or some such that she had access to as she grew up that revealed her mother's feelings.
It will be interesting to see if further developments confirm or refute these interpretations and speculations.
